WoW! Wouter over het Web

Tim O’Reilly zit ondertussen in SF (dit is geen Science Fiction), en maakt zich klaar voor de Web 2.0 conferentie. Wat is nu precies Web 2.0? Aan een collega schreef ik dat Amazon Web 2.0 is. Daar was hij het niet mee eens. Hij is een echte applicatie ontwikkelaar, en zijn oordeel wordt gevormd door de ICT omgeving van Amazon. Daar kan ik niet echt over oordelen. Ik dacht van wel, op grond van de gebruikersparticipatie die zo kenmerkend is voor Amazon. De recensies die je bij boeken kwijt kan zijn maken voor mij duidelijk dat Amazon Web 2.0 is. O’Reilly schaart Amazon daar trouwens ook toe.

O’Reilly geeft zelf de volgende bondige definitie van

Web 2.0.

is the network as platform, spanning all connected devices; Web 2.0 applications are those that make the most of the intrinsic advantages of that platform: delivering software as a continually-updated service that gets better the more people use it, consuming and remixing data from multiple sources, including individual users, while providing their own data and services in a form that allows remixing by others, creating network effects through an "architecture of participation," and going beyond the page metaphor of Web 1.0 to deliver rich user experiences.

In dit artikel (zeer lezenswaardig) gaat hij uitgebreid in op het verschijnsel Web 2.0. Ik denk dat er de komende dagen niet aan te ontkomen is, aan het fenomeen Web 2.0.
