Een van de blogs die ik altijd graag lees is die van David Rothman. Een tikkeltje medisch georienteerd, maar altijdop zoek naar de toepassing van web 2.0 tools op zijn vakgebied. He maintains a good list on medical wiki's and is one of the brains behind libworm. Op dit moment is zijn blog geselecteerd voor de laatste ronde van de 2007 Medical Weblog Awards. Nu heeft hij nog stemmen nodig. Jullie stem ook!

De blog Library Hacks van de bibliotheek van Duke University vind ik een mooi voorbeeld van waarin een blog nu verschilt van een feed op het laatste bibliotheek nieuws. Op dit blog komen tal van bibliotheek gerelateerde onderwerpen voorbij die niet echt over de bibliotheek gaan maar wel degelijk raakvlakken hebben. Het zijn geen nieuwsitem, maar hebben te maken met het informatiepakket in de breedste zin van het woord. Bijvoorbeeld de posts over Zotero, file recovery of podcasts. Zo maar wat voorbeelden van hun blog, die naar ik hoop het verschil illustreren. De toon, de onderwerpen, en de mogelijkheid om commentaar te geven, maken het voor mij een prachtige bibliotheek blog. Eentje waar ik best wel een beetje jaloers op ben.

In English.
After a long period of hesitation, I have finally started a separate blog in English. The rationale for a separate blog in English is described in the first post at my new blog.
Since I am the least geeky biblioblogger around, I have not made the effort to transfer all English posts from this blog to the new blog and installed proper redirects. No. My previous posts in English will remain on this. Thus my brand new English blog will be starting from scratch and will need some time to grow and gain some impact.
So my dear readers, check the bearings for information in English on library 2.0 developments and library innovation in the Netherlands, reviews of databases or scientometrics go over to wowter.net and subscribe to the new feed.

When I started a new blog about the moving of our Library, at the request of the library, I asked for a domain on the library website. Starting a blog is allright, but some impact is to be desired. So A http://library.wur.nl/ domain would be desirable.

However installing wordpress on the library server was too much of a hassle.

Posting to a FTP site within the firewall was out of the question, so a redirect was proposed. And how useful that is. Look at the SERP for the simple query [forumgebouw verhuizing]. The first hit in Google is found at our library website whereas the real blog website is only to be found are rank 34 or so.


Just another example that the Google Sandbox is for real. So the bottomline, when you want to use a blog for promotional activities: Start early, or find other means to avoid the Google Sandbox.

Heerlijk om toch vooral veel blogs te lezen, dan vind je hier en daar ook wel een overeenkomsten in ideeën en gedachten. Vandaag berichtte Moqub nog over de Rotterdamse actie van "Kijk mam ik studeer al". Hardstikke leuk natuurlijk om je bibliotheek zo onder de aandacht brengen. Erg Library2.0 het gebruik van een Flickr account door de EUR. Daar hebben ze het vandaag in Tilburg onder leiding van Michael Stephens uitgebreid over gehad!
Maar ik had de slogan kort daarvoor ook al gezien. Waar ook alweer? De (uitstekende) blog/rss search van Ask schoot me te hulp. Geen Flickr account, maar wel net zo innovatief daar boven in Groningen.
Het gaat mij er niet om wie er eerder was, met dit idee. Of het beter doet. Ik vind het een leuk staaltje marketing voor een universiteitsbibliotheek. Er zijn nog een stuk of wat UB's in Nederland die dit voorbeeld zouden kunnen volgen. Misschien Wageningen volgend Jaar ook?
